The Des Moines Register recently had another excellent
editorial found here that
again disputes the myth that medical malpractice cases in Iowa are somehow
deterring physicians from practicing in Iowa. As firm of Iowa Medical Malpractice Attorneys, we adamantly oppose any
pending proposals to cap non-economic damages in medical malpractice lawsuits,
as these proposals only serve to cause further hardship to injured Iowans and
will not create any tangible benefit regarding physician availability or care.
I am glad that medical malpractice suits aren't cause a decrease in the amount of people that want to be doctors. We need those people for our safety and health! I'm sure that a good doctor doesn't even see a malpractice suit in their whole career. If they do, then my brother says their insurance covers them. He's a doctor, so I trust his opinion on the matter. Thank you for the article!

The thought that your doctor can mess up so badly, you have to sue them for compensation, is terrifying. Doctors are the ones you're trusting with your health and your life. I would not be a happy camper if someone messed me up. http://www.herbertmaxey.com/malpractice.html

I can't imagine having to file a medical malpractice suit. I think the worst part would be the physical ramifications of that sort of thing. You can find stories about things being left behind or stitched up wrong. It can be a scary experience.

I am glad that this is a myth. Medical malpractice lawsuits protect patients from negligence. Physicians are less likely to make careless mistakes if they know they can be held accountable. Competent physicians have nothing to worry about.
